CNYBA News

CNYBA News: "January 2007
RAMBLIN’ with Helen...

As we start a new year, my hopes and prayers are for each of you to have a “better” one is every way possible. HAPPY NEW YEAR to EACH of YOU.

Our membership lost two dedicated members in December. John Hornyak, a long-time member and supporter e-mailed me on Fri., Dec. 1st telling of the passing of Edwin A. Horton (56) of Norwich, N.Y. early that morning. Eddie had been a patient at the Veteran’s Home in Oxford for several months. Eddie served his country in the Pacific during the Vietnam Conflict, always a quiet, contented, unassuming soul, who especially loved and supported music and radio stations. He was also a member of PENNY, and attended ours and their festivals as long as he health enabled him to. He leaves his wife of 22 years, Pat, and an 89 year old father who is currently hospitalized with terminal bone cancer. Calling hours were at the R. J. Fahey Funeral Home in Norwich on 12/5 and services and burial were on the 6th. Expressions of sympathy (still not too late to send Pat a note) to Mrs. Patricia Horton, 185 Grotsinger Rd., Norwich, N.Y. 13815. Expressions of sympathy on behalf of CNYBA were sent to Pat, along with a note to John Hornyak, one of Eddie & Pat’s dearest friends; and who I know was a great help to Pat during the past months of Eddie’s illness.

FW: Legislation Advances that Could Ban All New Semiautomatic Handguns!

Legislation Advances that Could Ban All New Semiautomatic Handguns!
Please Stand Up and Make Your Voices Heard!

Assembly Bill 6468C, sponsored by State Assemblywomen Michelle Schimel (D-16), passed the Assembly and the Senate version of the bill, Senate Bill 6005, sponsored by State Senator Eric Schneiderman (D-31), is currently pending in the Senate Codes Committee.  Both bills require that semiautomatic pistols manufactured or delivered to any licensed dealer in the state of New York be capable of micro-stamping and establish fines for violations of this requirement.

Micro-stamping is an unproven technology that would require unique identifying information from the firearm, including the make, model, and serial number, to be etched into the firing pin and breech face in such a manner that those identifiers are imprinted on the cartridge case upon firing.  The technology can easily be defeated with common household tools, has no public safety value, and adds substantially to the cost of the firearm.  If passed, the availability of semi-automatic handguns in New York could be in jeopardy, as manufacturers simply may choose not to build or sell firearms for purchase in the state, which is the goal of this legislation.

If allowed to become law, this bill will serve as a ban on all new semiautomatic handguns in New York State!  It is imperative that you contact your lawmakers and ask their position on A6468C and S6005.  Also, respectfully urge them to oppose these bills.

State Assembly Members can be reached by phone at (518) 455-4100.  To find your Assembly Member, please click here

Your State Senator can be contacted through the Senate switchboard at (518) 455-2800.  To find your State Senator, please click here

Also, please email NRA-ILA's State & Local Affairs Division at state&local@nrahq.org and let us know what response you are getting from your lawmakers concerning A6468C and S6005.
